As an effect of the war, exam performance of students in northern Uganda has lagged behind those in the rest of the country. The teachers at Gulu Primary have made academic improvement their highest priority. The Primary Leaving Exam (PLE) is a test that all students take for graduation from primary school and is used as a benchmark for the quality of education. Gulu Primary's PLE results for the last five years are shown below:
